Homecoming

Wesley Deeds and Annette Joiner were voted the 1959 homecoming king and queen by the student body. Wesley, being on the football team, was unable to join Annette on the field for the half-time ceremony, so Tommy Osborne stood in for him. Frances Chancey is shown bestowing the crown on Annette. Lamar Peace's face can be seen behind Tommy's. Frances and Lamar were the 1958 homecoming queen and king.

For those who may not remember all of the details, Annette was sponsored by the Junion Exchange club of which Roger Sherman was a member. This is how he came to manage Annette's homecoming queen campaign. The red image on this page is actually an ink blotter, designed by Roger, that the campaign handed out. Yes, pen and ink was still used by some at that time. Annette's popularity and beauty plus Roger's masterful handling of her campaign carried the day.

You may ask how it is that Annette is carrying beautifully colored flowers in a black and white photo that never had color. Credit for the color goes to my friend, Bill Johnson, whom many of you met at the 50th reunion.
